Back To Current Exhibitions We have recently expanded our roster of Japanese glass artists to include Aki Takemoto and Akiko Iwase. Our first, Japanese artist Yukako Kojima, has been with Palette since 2005. Each artist studied at Japan's Toyama Glass Institute.

Aki Takemoto's sculpture and jewelry will be featured on both First Friday, February 3, 2012 from 5-8PM and during our NE Heights ArtsCrawl evening on Friday,February 17 from 5-8 PM in her show TSUZUREORI which will continue thru 3-1-12.

What is TSUZUREORI? Aki has difficulty, understandably, fully elaborating upon its meaning in English. This term translates to meaning "hand-woven fabric". Since her artistry is entirely composed of glass, her TSUZUREORI is a fabric-like image whose composition has been constructed in varying combinations of colors and patterns which have been influenced by the passage of time.

Aki's artistry relies upon her enamel painting and fusing capabilities. She paints on thin sheets of glass then piles, fuses, and cuts them into smaller sizes. Lastly, she assembles the resulting smaller-sized creations into a mosaic which is then, once more, fused.

Her jewelry pieces are considered to be mini-representations of her sculpture since Aki's novel patterning and palette are present in all her work, large and wearable.

Come visit with us on either Friday, February 3 or February 17 and discover your own "Rare Find For Your Valentine"! You won't be disappointed.
